Block Central began in April
1998 as "A Quilter's Coloring Book", a collection
of coloring pages designed to help quilters experiment
with various color choices. I began adding a link
to a free pattern at the bottom of each coloring page
and it was during searches for free quilt
patterns that I became aware of the volume of free patterns
available. At that time, I was not aware of any
sort of directory for these patterns, so.........I started
one. I called the page (yes, it was only one page
at that time!) "Block Central". Word
spread and soon it became that most visited page of
my site, so I decided to change the site name to what
most people were calling it anyway, "Block Central".
Since that time, Block Central
has grown and I have added several other sections to
the site, but the most popular section still is, and
will always be, the directory of free quilt block patterns.
I appreciate all of you who have sent links, corrections,
suggestions, and good old-fashioned "thank-you's".
You have made the maintenance of this site very
enjoyable.
As the days and years have
gone by, I am still humbled by the enormity of this
thing we call the World Wide Web and more so by the
incredible, giving nature of quilters all around the
world. To share seems to be second nature to quilters and
this is expressed in the enormous amount of quilting
information that is shared and enjoyed by so many on
a daily basis. It has been my supreme pleasure
to point someone to the information source needed to
help them complete a project, make a special gift for
a special person, or to help them discover the world
of quilting. To all of those wonderful people
who have taken a moment to share their knowledge with
the world via the internet........Thank You!
