Hawaii- 12" Quilt Block

 We will be using templates to cut the fabric for this block.  You can download the templates in .pdf format here.  (Note:  To view and print the templates requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free software download that can be found here.) Lay a sheet of template plastic over the printed templates and trace onto the template plastic.  Cut out and label each template.  Use the cutting chart below to cut your patches.

Cutting Instructions:

 

 

Cut four using template B, four using template D, and four using template F.

 

 

Cut four using template A and four using template G.

 

 

Cut twelve using template C and four using template E.

Sewing Instructions:

Step 1: Sew a white E to a blue F as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four E/F sections.

Step 2: Sew a white C to the left and right sides of a green G as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four C/G/C sections.

Step 3:  Sew a blue B to the left side of a white C and a blue D to the right side of the white C as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four B/C/D sections.

Step 4:  Sew a B/C/D section to the top of a C/G/C section as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four B/C/D/C/G/C sections.

Step 5:  Sew four wedges together as shown below.  Repeat once more for a total of two and press seams in one direction.

Step 6:  Sew the two halves together as shown below.  

Step 7:  Sew the green A triangles to the top of each white E section and you are done!

Your block should measure 12-1/2" on all sides.  It will measure 12" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt.
