Fabric Key:

Cutting Instructions:

Cut two 6-7/8" squares.

Cut twelve 2-7/8" squares.

Cut two 6-7/8" squares, twelve 2-7/8" squares, and four 2-1/2" squares.

Sewing Instructions:

Step 1: With a pencil (or your favorite marking method), draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of all cream 6-7/8" squares and 2-7/8" squares.

Step 2: With right sides together, place a cream 6-7/8" square on top of a green 6-7/8" square.  Sew a 1/4" seam on each side of the line that you drew in Step 1.  Cut apart on the line and press seam allowances toward the darker fabric.  Trim points.  Repeat once more for a total of four light/dark half-square triangles.

Step 3:  With right sides together, place a cream 2-7/8" square on top of an orange 2-7/8" square.  Sew a 1/4" seam on each side of the line that you drew in Step 1.  Cut apart on the line and press seam allowances toward the darker fabric.  Trim points.  Repeat eleven more times for a total of twenty-four cream/orange half-square triangles.

Step 4:  Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew three cream/orange half-square triangles and one cream 2-1/2" square as shown in Diagram A.  Make four of these.  Sew three cream/orange half-square triangles together as shown in Diagram B.  Make four of these.

Step 5:  Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew a B unit that you made in Step 4 to the side of a cream/green half-square triangle as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four.

Step 6:  Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew an A unit that you made in Step 4 to the top of a cream/green half-square triangle as shown below.  Repeat for a total of four.

Step 7:  Arrange the sections as shown below and sew into rows (Diagram 1).  Sew the rows together to finish the block (Diagram 2).

Your block should measure 16-1/2" on all sides.  It will measure 16" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt.
