Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Layer a Color E (cream) 3-7/8" triangle on a Color C (tan) 3-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4. (Each unit should measure 3-1/2".)

Step 2:    Sew a 2-7/8" Color B (pink) triangle to the left side of a 5-1/4" Color E (cream) triangle, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Next, sew a 2-7/8" Color C (tan) triangle to the right side of the same 5-1/4" Color E (cream) triangle.  Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2".)

Step 3:   Layer a Color E (cream) 2-7/8" triangle on a Color B (pink) 2-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4. (Each unit should measure 2-1/2".)

Step 4:   Using a pencil and ruler, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each 2-1/2" Color A (red) and Color B (pink) squares, as shown below.

Step 5:  Layer a Step 4 Color B (pink) square on a 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" Color A (red) rectangle, as shown below.  Sew along the marked line.  Trim away the excess fabric 1/4" above the stitched line.  Press the seam allowance toward the Color A (red) rectangle.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2".)

Step 6:   Layer a Step 4 Color A (red) square on a 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" Color C (tan) rectangle, as shown below.  Sew along the marked line.  Trim away the excess fabric 1/4" above the stitched line.  Press the seam allowance toward the Color C (tan) rectangle.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2".)

Step 7:  Stitch a Step 5 and Step 6 unit together, as shown below.  Press the seam allowance to one side.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2")

Step 8:  Arrange the four Step 7 units as shown below.  Stitch together to form two rows and press the seam allowances to the left.  Stitch again join the rows to complete the center pinwheel unit.  Press the seam allowance to one side.  Make 1.  (This unit should measure 8-1/2" x 8-1/2")

Step 9:  Sew a Step 3 unit to the left and right sides of a Step 2 unit as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the Step 2 unit.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 8-1/2")

Step 10:  Sew a 2-1/2" Color E (cream) square to each end of a Step 9 unit as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color E squares.  Make 2.  (This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 12-1/2" .)

Step 11:  Sew a Step 9 unit to the left and right sides of the Step 8 unit, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Step 8 unit.

Next, sew a Step 10 unit to the top and bottom of the unit to complete the center block.  Press seam allowances toward the center.

Step 12:   Stitch a Step 1 unit to the left and right ends of a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.  (Each unit should measure 3-1/2" x 18-1/2".)

Step 13:   Stitch a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle to the left and right sides of the Step 11 unit.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.

Step 14:   Stitch a Step 12 unit to the top and bottom of the block.  Press the seam allowances away from the block center.

Your block should measure 18-1/2" at this point.  It will measure 18" when it is sewn into the quilt.
