Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Layer a Color E (cream) 3-7/8" triangle on a Color C (tan) 3-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4. (Each unit should measure 3-1/2".)

Step 2:    Layer a Color E (cream) 2-7/8" triangle on a Color B (pink) 2-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2".)

Step 3:   Layer a Color B (pink) 2-7/8" triangle on a Color A (red) 2-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 8.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2".)

Step 4: Arrange the four Step 2 triangles, as shown below.  Sew together to form rows and press seam allowances in opposite directions.  Sew the two rows together to complete the pinwheel unit.  Press seam allowances open or in one direction.  Make 1.  (This unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2".)

Step 5:   Sew a 2-7/8" Color B (pink) triangle to the right end of a 5-1/4" Color E (cream) triangle as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Repeat on the left end of the same triangle, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2".)

Step 6:  Sew a Step 5 unit to a Color C (tan) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the Color C fabric.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2")

Step 7:  Arrange two Step 3 units, a Color A (red) 2-1/2" square and a Color E (cream) 2-1/2" square, as shown below.  Sew together horizontally to create rows and press the seam allowances in opposite directions.  Sew the rows together to finish the unit and press the seam allowance toward the top row.  Make 4.  (This unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2")

Step 8:  Arrange the Step 4, Step 6, and Step 7 units, as shown below.  Sew into rows.  Press seam allowances for top and bottom rows toward the center unit.  Press the seam allowance for the middle row away from the center unit.  Sew the rows together to finish the block center (not shown).  Press the seam allowance away from the center row.   (The block will measure 12-1/2" at this time.)

Step 9:   Stitch a Step 1 unit to the left and right ends of a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.  (Each unit should measure 3-1/2" x 18-1/2".)

Step 10:   Stitch a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle to the left and right sides of the Step 8 unit.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.

Step 11:   Stitch a Step 9 unit to the top and bottom of the block.  Press the seam allowances away from the block center.

Your block should measure 18-1/2" at this point.  It will measure 18" when it is sewn into the quilt.
