squares.

Step 2:
Place a Color B (cream) 2-1/2" square in the upper right corner of a
Color A (blue) 4-1/2" square, wrong sides together. Sew along the
diagonal line that your drew in Step 1. Trim away the fabric 1/4"

Step 3:
Place a Color B (cream) 2-1/2" square in the upper right corner of a
Color A (blue) 4-1/2" square, wrong sides together. Sew along the
diagonal line that your drew in Step 1. Trim away the fabric 1/4"
above the seam and press the seam allowance toward the Color B (cream)
fabric. Trim point. Repeat in two more corners, as shown below. Make
4. (This unit should measure 4-1/2" square.)

Step 4:
Place a Color B (cream) 2-1/2" square on the right end of a Color
C (red) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle, wrong sides together. Sew along the
diagonal line that your drew in Step 1. Trim away the fabric 1/4"
above the seam and press the seam allowance toward the Color B (cream)
fabric. Trim point. Repeat on the left end, as shown below. Make 4.
(This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2")

Step 5: Place
a Color C (red) 2-1/2" square on the right end of a Color B (cream)
2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle, wrong sides together. Sew along the
diagonal line that your drew in Step 1. Trim away the fabric 1/4"
above the seam and press the seam allowance toward the Color C (red)
fabric. Trim point. Repeat on the left end, as shown below. Make 4.
(This unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2")

Step 6: Sew
a Step 4 unit and a Step 5 unit together, as shown below. Press the
seam allowance toward the Step 4 unit. Make 4. (This unit should
measure 4-1/2" square.)

Step 7:
Arrange the Step 2 unit, the Step 3 units, and the Step 6 units as
shown below. Sew into rows and press the seam allowances toward the
Step 6 units.

Step 8: Sew the rows together to finish the block. Press the seam allowances away from the middle row.

Your block should
measure 12-1/2" at this point. It will measure 12" when it is sewn into a
quilt.
